Got Some Glass Vases? 4 Things You Can Do With Them

If you have some glass vases around your home that you are not using, you can make good use of them in many ways. Below are four of these ways so you can determine if you would like to do this.

Use as an Outdoor Candle Holder

If you like to spend time outdoors on your patio or deck, you may want to have some candles. This can be difficult to do if the wind keeps blowing them out. You could choose flameless candles, but, if you want the real thing, you can use your glass vases. Find candles that fit well inside of the vases and the flame will be completely protected from wind. Put some pretty pebbles in the bottom of the vase to make it look decorative or tie a ribbon around it. Having the vase dressed up with a beautiful candle inside makes a great outdoor centerpiece.

Paint the Vases

If you would like to use the vases for flowers but want a different look than plain glass, you can paint the vases very easily. Purchase some glass paint at a home improvement store. Thoroughly clean the vases with hot, soapy water and let them dry.

Once dry, pour enough paint in the vases to complexly cover the bottom. You than want to tilt each vase horizontally and roll it around to let the paint spread all over the glass. Keep rolling until the entire surface is covered. Turn the vases upside down on a piece of newspaper and let them dry. You now have colored vases. Choose from a variety of colors to match your home's decor.

Use as Bookends

Get two identical vases and wash them with warm, soapy water. When dry, fill the vases with colored sand, beads, or whatever you would like. You can purchase colored sand and beads at a craft store. These items will weigh the vases down, which will keep the books from falling over.

Plant Herbs

Instead of flowers, grow herbs in the vases and put them in your kitchen. Place rocks in the bottom of the vase for drainage. Put some plant soil in the vase and plant your herbs. There are fragrant herbs that you can use to give your kitchen a nice fragrance. Some of these herbs include rosemary, lavender, thyme, lemon balm, and mint.
